I wake up to another morning with the sunlight bathing the curtains and whitewashing the entire room. It seems to be a beautiful day. I turn on the television and flip channels until I come across a news channel giving some breaking news. I just grab on my glasses in order to have clear picture of the news. I shout so loud “What the hell?” that my mother comes running into the drawing room. She realizes that why I was shouting. There in the news we see the live telecast of a spine chilling earthquake taking place in Japan. Its seems to be beyond my comprehension to describe the fear that I had felt that time and still get goose bumps thinking about the scenario of 2012 prophecy.
The prophecy of our earth getting destroyed is not a new thing. Earlier there used to be tsunamis but we didn’t have instruments to detect it. But with recurring earthquakes and tsunamis the possibility of destruction has increased. And guess what? It is happening. The nature’s fury has started to play. When I last visited the Puri sea beach I was shocked to find out that it has started eroding the road surrounding it. It has come so far that it has been predicted that within 20 years the famous hotels near the beach will be washed away by the sea. Not only in Orissa but it has been happening in all parts of India and also the world. There has been increased global warming leading to melting of ice in arctic and Antarctic regions. How can we forget the Tsunami that lashed the shores of southern India and the small island countries in the Indian Ocean. People who came as tourists lost their families and not only them many people who were not alerted before went down to the beach and, with a twist of fate, were found dead and some of them were never found. That tsunami changed the lives of everyone. Then this earthquake in Japan which happened this year only sent the message that our end is near. Not only one but two earthquakes have triggered Japan within three months.
The year 2012 is now round the corner. Some are saying that the earth will not get entirely destroyed. But there will be some destruction in some parts. Still there are many questions arising in my mind. Will all continents again join up due to tectonic movements to become a one large continent like earlier? Will there be an end of mankind with emergence of dinosaurs again?? Or is the world really going to end?? These questions are not only mine but these are the questions made by humankind. Whatever the answers maybe, whether we live or we perish, we should enjoy every gift of nature and every moment of our live because our future is full of terrible surprises. That several predictions of the effects of climate change have come true brings us tangible proof that we must mobilize what we can to create our most effective insulation against this crisis. With this we all go back to our slumber hoping for a wonderful morning the next day.
